Censor board which is actually known as The Central Board of Film Certificate is a statutory body for censorship and classification under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India. The task of the censor board is to "regulate the public exhibition of films under the provisions of the Cinematography Act, 1952". Once the movie makers complete a film it will be screened in theatres and television only when censor board certifies it. The Central Board of Film Certificate was formed on 15 January 1951 and it's been 68 years now. The headquarters for the Censor board is in Bombay, Maharashtra. Films are certified under 4 categories: 1: "U" (unrestricted public exhibition)
2: "A" (restricted to adult audiences) 18+ ONLY. 3:"U/A" (unrestricted public exhibition subject to parental guidance for children below the age of  twelve). 4: "S" (restricted to specialized audiences).
Sometimes Censor board instead of granting one of the above categories, there is possibility of Board refusing to certify the movie. After the films gets certified they are screened in the theatres.
