PERIOD MOVIES
Period movies are those that represent the happenings of the past. They may be fictional or non fictional. I am a fan of historical period movies. The stories, costumes, language, are all entirely different from the movies set in the present. These movies show to us the life during the times we have not lived in.
Period films inform us about the culture of our ancestors, their ideas and traditions. If many of us are aware of the royal costumes, wars, the elaborate meals, the credit goes to period movies. Many movies on wars, freedom fighters, kings and queens have been made for us to know how India has been in the past. We can also know a lot about the language that was used during those times and how much it has changed as the time has passed.Even as period films are made from reading epics and other novels written by some great authors, they create a bigger impact on us, as we are visualizing it.We see the actors as the characters and not as themselves. For example, while seeing the famous Mahabharat serial, the actor Nitesh Bharathwaj who did the role of Krishna, would perfectly match the characterizations of Krishna and make us believe Krishna would look exactly the same.We all know more about Bharathiar, Mahatma Gandhi, and many more freedom fighters from period movies as showing something visually is better understood than reading or listening. My most favorite period films include- 'Bajirao Mastani', 'Padmavat', 'Kalank'. They are really amazing works that intricately show us the life during those times, the thoughts and ideologies of the rulers, perception about love and relationships.
