MUSIC, DANCE AND DRAMA

In this era, where entertainment is an inevitable necessity, let us rewind to the spark of the entertainment world. Entertainment is not a very new term. It existed from the time humans lived in this world, though it was a luxury unlike the present.
Music and dance has always been an integral part in the lives of human beings. It is used worldwide as a way to express one's feelings, be it happiness, sorrow, excitement or anger. There is probably no art form that can make someone feel happy or cry in just a change of voice or by the raise of an eyebrow than music or dance. There were so many music concerts, and dance shows, that were staged in the court rooms for kings to witness and enjoy, thus the concept of entertainment being available only for the wealthy. But, over a period of time, entertainment slowly made its way into the lives of common people. Concerts were arranged in temples where huge numbers would come to witness and enjoy. These concerts started to become regular and then came the revolution in the entertainment. It was not anymore a solo music concert or a dance performance but, a combination of both with stories-The Dance Drama. Dance dramas were more or less like the present day movies, that had a story that was to be conveyed by the means of music and dance. The expressions on the face of the dancer conveyed the entire emotions and feelings to the audience to understand and live in the story. This changed the entire perspective of entertainment in India. It reached to so many people around the country and grabbed everyone's attention and was also silently carving way to today's entertainment industry.
I believe there is no mistake in crediting the dance dramas for the success of the movies we are watching now. The spark of these dramas are probably the reason behind the intense interests people have on movies. The idea to convey anything visually would reoccur in the memory was probably a discovery of these dramas. The tales of Krishna, Mahabharata, Ramayana were all staged and people who have watched these dramas could actually visualize the incidents, remember and recollect them rather than reading the books. This also helped common people without the boon of literacy to know about these great epics and other stories and social happenings.
Dance dramas now has lost its importance ,with the movies gaining so much hype. Dramas have again started to not being available for everybody, but not because it is a luxury but because it is out dated. It is inevitable that the one that introduces something new is always lost.
